RCA is compulsory motor third-party liability insurance. It covers damage you cause to others, not your own car; CASCO is voluntary insurance for your own car.
For property damage, the limit is EUR 100,000 per accident regardless of the number of victims. For bodily injury or death, the limit is EUR 100,000 per person or EUR 500,000 for several people per accident. Moral damage after disability or death is limited to EUR 5,000 per person or EUR 10,000 for several people.
Since 14 January 2025, the market has been partially liberalized: BNM sets reference premiums, and each insurer sets its own tariff using its own actuarial calculations, which cannot be below the reference premium. The final price is the base premium multiplied by risk adjustment coefficients and the bonus-malus coefficient. The official trailer coefficient for the towing vehicle is 0.2. The premium is paid in full.
Based on claims history, a driver is placed in a bonus class, which lowers the premium, or a malus class, which raises it. You can check your class on BNM's portal and request a five-year claims-history certificate.
Driving without valid RCA is punishable by a fine of 30–60 conventional units (MDL 1,500–3,000) and 3 penalty points.
